It’s a big weekend for fans of horsepower with speedway’s New Zealand Saloon Car Championship and harness racing’s Invercargill Cup being held in Invercargill.
Riverside Speedway president Daryl Shuttleworth says he and other speedway officials are rapt to be hosting the championship for the first time.
“It’s a bit of coup for us.
“A lot of North Islanders have come down [to drive in it] and the best in the South Island are here too to battle it out.”
