Members of a low-rider car community in East Austin said Sunday they will not be stopping their weekly car shows amid noise and traffic complaints from some residents of a new nearby apartment complex.
The car enthusiasts said the clubs have gathered on Sundays at Edward Rendon Park at Festival Beach since the 1990’s to enjoy music and a lineup of low-riders. The cars line up around a parking lot and drive slowly down nearby streets, showing off their colorful cars and silver rims.
Bertha Rendon Delgado, president of the East Town Lake Neighborhood Association, said at Sunday’s gathering that she hopes to find a way to make the tenants of the Weaver apartments who have complained realize the event is part of the area’s culture.
