Fast speeds and reckless driving may have cost a 6-year-old boy his life after an alleged street racing incident Saturday night on U.S. 74 in the Crowders Mountain area led to a three-car wreck.
A second person involved in the wreck remains listed in critical condition at a Charlotte hospital.
The child who died, Liam Lagunitis of Monroe, was in child protective seat in the back seat of a third vehicle not involved in the the alleged reckless driving, according to the Highway Patrol.
“This is just another reminder of how quickly things can go bad and how quickly things can happen,” said Trooper Ray Pierce, “and a reminder of how one bad decision can turn into a nightmare for several people.”
